AKA KINMAKI - Aka = Red, Kin = Gold, Maki = Whirl
With a brush „shû“ pigmented urushi is applied partially on the pen bodies. After drying „kin“ gold powder is sprinkled over and dried. Some layers of red „shû“ urushi follow. Then the surface is ground flat to release the pattern.
