Kawari-Nuri "Tetsu" (Urushi)

Description:

"Kawari-Nuri" The barrel, cap and sections are made from Japanese Ebonite and finished in various experimental urushi lacquer techniques called "saya-nuri" or "kawari-nuri". During the Edo-period (1603-1868) designs by urushi lacquering on sword scabbards "saya" became fashionable. Almost unlimited ways to lacquer scabbards have been developed during the centuries. It is my goal to re-discover old and to invent new techniques being applied on my fountain pens.
