Description:
Jumbo Pen and its case with "Negoro-Nuri" Urushi Lacquer.
The pen body manufactured from Ebonite. Total length: 120 mm, length barrel with nib 115 mm, diameter barrel 24 mm, Diameter cap: 27 mm. The golden band on the cap is made from urushi and brass powder (Kinsoku Mitateai) to imitate hammered solid brass. The case made from Aluminum with an ebonite lid and lacquered with urushi.
JUMBO pens with matching containers, both featuring the wonderful Negoro urushi lacquer.
The story goes that these jumbo pens were developed in Japan in the early 1900s for older people with arthritis or weak grip strength.In the 1940s Jumbo pens became very popular in the US and they were imported in large quantities which is why we can still be found at pen shows today.
