Kinsoku Mitateai



Description:

Kinsoku Mitateai is the term for urushi lacquer imitating metal surfaces.
On this pen I tried to imitate a Japanese metal work, a worn rusty iron surface with a "shakudo" flying sparrow inlay. A touch of wabi sabi.
The metal like ground was achieved by sprinkling various metal powders. The inlay was directly built on the ground in "takamaki-e" technique (high relief). Many layers saturated with charcoal powder, finally lacquered, details engraved and polished
