Kokusô No. 31 "Kazari Yamimaki-e"
This is a "Kazari Kokusô" Pipe. Shaped and modeled with kokusô (A mix of urushi, rice flour, clay powder and sawdust) around a Morta core and lacquered with jet-black "Shôen Urushi Lacquer. Kazari = decoration. The pipe is decorated with snails built in high relief "takamaki-e" technique from urushi and metal powders engraved. Yamimaki-e = Black in Black Lacquer. As all Kokusô Pipes a Unique Piece
 
The Pipes are completely hand crafted and lacquered in the MP Atelier in Switzerland
A Note on Urushi
Urushi lacquer is literally indestructible, The hardness of Urushi lacquer reaches Mohs 4, the hardness of Glass, Urushi Lacquer has strong antibacterial properties, Urushi lacquer is resistant against all known Acids and Alkalis, Urushi withstands heat up to 300 Degree Celsius, Only long and strong exposure to UV rays could destroy Urushi over time.
