Urushi & Bamboo Slingshot - an experiment
Description:
Urushi & Bamboo Slingshot - an experiment
The bamboo was first roughly cut into length. Then I wrapped a strong flax thread one centimeter wide around the section between the handpiece and the fork, then covered several times with urushi. This was followed by three coats of urushi and fine brass powder, which after sanding and polishing looks like solid brass. After that I drilled the holes for making the fork, split and cut out the superfluous parts. Then the bamboo were steamed in a steamer for 3 hours. Then the two arms were bent into shape with the help of a flame. After the material was well dried, the lacquer work began. Handle and inside of the two arms with black Ishime-Ji and the rest several times with transparent "Sukurome Urushi". Then followed sanding and polishing. Silicone rubbers for spinning are simply pulled over the ends
